More Than 350 Million Windows 7 Licenses Sold

May 20th, 2012

I can hardly believe that Windows 7 has been out on the market now for 18 months. It seems like only yesterday that I was reporting on its release, how time can fly! I was only reminded today when I had a look at the Windows Team Blog to see that Microsoft’s in house blogger Brandon LeBlanc had put up a post marking the occasion.

In his post he announces that so far to date, Microsoft have sold more than 350 million Windows 7 licenses! That really is incredible. It’s amazing how much momentum Windows 7 has managed to carry over the last 18 months. Only this month it has managed to surpass Windows XP’s market share in the US, and I’m sure we will see it over taking XP worldwide very soon.

The blog post also goes on to say what great feedback Microsoft are getting from Windows 7. Analyst firms like IDC are estimating that more than 90% of businesses are currently in progress with their Windows 7 migrations. They also say that companies which have deployed Windows 7 are saving an average of $140 per PC per year. That’s giving businesses a 131% return on investment just over 12 months.

Microsoft have also announced that they’re launching a special page that will showcase some Windows customers experiences. You can find the page here. It’s basically feedback from large companies and orgranisations like Energizer,Samsung,T-systems and The Executive Council of Dubai saying what Windows 7 has done for them.

I just quickly read through a few of them, and it’s amazing the amount of money that Windows 7 seems to be saving these businesses.

However, I’m sure a lot of you now are turning your focus towards Windows 8 which is expected to be released in late 2012 or early 2013. Of course you can find out all about that on our sister blog Windows8News
